CURRENT RESEARCH

SOCIALIZATION OF ECONOMIC INEQUALITIES

Our current project examines how parents teach or shield children from topics about economic inequality. First, parents will complete a survey about how they think about the fairness of society’s economics, and how much they discuss or avoid discussing personal finances and societal inequalities with their child. Interested parents may also elect to have their child participate in a follow-up study about children's knowledge of economic inequality and of people of different economic statuses.

CHILDREN'S UNDERSTANDING OF STATUS AND SPENDING

This project includes a short structured game in which children will get to simulate buying items from a school book fair. This game will practice budgeting money and spending on different types of resources. By asking children to complete this game, we will gain valuable information about how children choose to spend money and the factors that may influence their decisions.

CHILDREN'S UNDERSTANDING OF WEALTH CUES

This study includes a short structured game that tests young children’s knowledge about material goods and occupations related to different economic statuses. By asking children to complete this game, we will gain valuable information about how children perceive information related to economic status and understand their social world.
